EPLAN is now really the standard

In September 2007, heat and piping specialist Callens & EMK from Harelbeke switched over to EPLAN Electric P8 software. This was a necessity. More and more industrial clients in Belgium and France were explicitly asking for electrical schematics in EPLAN format. Their engineers simply like to work with EPLAN Electric P8. “Proof that EPLAN has grown into the industry’s favourite system”, says Bart Desmet, Project Leader E&I at Callens & EMK. Callens & EMK is a Belgian industrial installation and construction company. It sells, rents and installs steam boilers, thermal oil boilers, industrial heating boilers and warm air generators, and handles industrial piping. It now also has a brand-new air technology department. Callens & EMK has 7,000 Belgian and French clients from all branches in the industry – from food, textile, wood and chemicals to the building sector. 100 full-time employees attained revenues of 17 million euros in 2006. Since September 2007, Bart Desmet has been Project Leader E&I and... EPLAN engineer at Callens & EMK. “I had learned about the EPLAN software in school and liked it then. But when I started to work here with EPLAN Electric P8, I discovered a whole extra bundle of advantages. It really contains everything you need to quickly design electrical schematics. Furthermore, the endless possibilities ensure that I save much time and work very accurately.” What then are the advantages of the software? Bart explains: “EPLAN Electric P8 automatically cross-references and generates clamp and cable connection lists quickly and without error. Since specifying all our standard material in EPLAN, I can just get the right parts from the parts database and incorporate them into the plan. In addition, the software automatically generates material and order lists and the control box layout is created with a user-friendly navigator. This navigator also indicates how to optimally assemble the box to keep it as small as possible, or to be able to place all the components. Terrifically convenient.” Knowledge Transfer
Bart Desmet mastered EPLAN Electric P8 after a base training in the EPLAN Training & Technology Center in Oudenaarde. “A base training like that is really necessary”, emphasizes Bart. “Afterwards you can immediately start working with the software. The training is very practical. The trainer really explains everything very clearly. Furthermore, you are constantly on the computer so that you can practice the tricks of the application right away.” “I find it very clever that EPLAN has its own Training & Technology Center for East and West Flanders. I did not have to travel across half the country for my training. The EPLAN T&T Center in Roeselare was equipped with all the technical facilities. Even the catering was well done. Courses have never been this pleasant.” Excellent Service
Outside of the training too, EPLAN is standing by to help. Bart: “EPLAN is more than a distributor of software or systems. They really offer support. A few weeks after the implementation, an EPLAN representative paid us a visit, simply to check whether everything was going well. That’s when you know that EPLAN cares about its customers.” “The EPLAN help desk is excellent too. If I’m looking for a certain function, I just call the help desk. They always answer my questions. If a function does not exist yet, EPLAN makes a note of this. I have seen such a new function show up regularly in a next version of the software. More and more, Callens & EMK provides the EPLAN schematics digitally. “The customers who do not work with EPLAN get the electrical schematics in an intelligent PDF format. But more and more we deliver them digitally at the request of the client. Not surprising. Increasingly, EPLAN is the standard system in the industry. A logical evolution when I see how much time EPLAN Electric P8 saves me every day.
